[The first thing that appears in the journal is a big, thick ink smudge, sort of like it's been fingerpainted by large, clumsy hands -- because it has.]

[A few moments later, when it becomes clear it just isn't going to happen, Van speaks. His voice is a rough, dry croak. Either he hasn't spoken in weeks... or he's overused it to the point of ruin.]
Tear. ...Tear.
[A bit later still, when he realizes he's drifting off and he does not want to pass out--]
What day is it? [Not that the answer will mean anything to him, thrice-damned nonsense calendar.]
(OOC: Reluctant first aid reserved for Tear, but feel free to answer him. He'll talk, he just won't accept help from anyone else.)

Re: [voice]
The first month of the new year.
Are you hurt? Do you need aid?

[voice]
Were you kidnapped? [The only other option is attacked, really, and while it was an option, there had not been any such incidents lately.]
[voice]
Why must people insist on calling it that?
[Kidnapping is such a loaded term. And something that happens to children, not grown men. You know, about ten or so.]
Re: [voice]
Still, Van you are injured why are you arguing terminology. He'll humor him, though.]
Actually... I am not sure. Would you rather it be called an abduction?
[voice]
It's obvious, Frey. Honestly.]
I'd rather it not happen at all. [To him.]
Re: [voice]
So he'll keep talking because he knows you can't let someone with an addled head fall asleep. Besides, he didn't know how badly Van was injured, so it was better to play it safe.]
I think everyone would prefer that. Sadly, the Malnosso are not exactly open to such negotiations.

That isn't to say many people, myself included, will give up trying to find ways to change things. But at the moment there are no advances on that end.
[The closest people came to figuring out how to 'fix' aubductions had been that recon mission- aided by Catherine himself.
Why is he trying to talk sense to an injured man again... oh right. Just talking.]
[voice]
...Although not an entirely senseless one, even if his knowledge of such situations does come from questionable experiences.]
You can't negotiate with someone who holds you worthless. We aren't people to them. Don't think they'd care to listen.

[He knew very well how that worked. Very well indeed, though he's learned from simply existing rather then trauma.]
